We parked up at Conwy Morfa with driving rain and blustery winds and it wasnt't looking good.

The tide was ripping past the pontoon like a raging flood. Big spring tide on an estuary! After a pow wow it was decided to try Conwy harbour for launching but we all accepted that fishing an estuary on an ebb tide wasn't going to be productive.

Coffee and chat while we waited for Cliff and Ray to do a recce on the harbour and seek permission to use the slipway for launching the safety boat.

Conwy slipway excellent for launching the safety boat and the kayaks. Rain stopped and wind eased right off. Things were looking up!

Glyn and Kev prepare.

Some of us lined up to be photographed for the Daily Post

Under the bridges we went. Above Dave (kayaker) and Terry (Zebra).

Ray and Steve fishing. The fishing was slow with only a few bites and a strong tide made weed a problem.

Stitch willing the fish to bite. Views of the castle excellent from the water.

Kev and Glyn in Malibu.

Kev Ashton on the front of my 2 man Malibu kayak. He did well for his first time and if he was nervous he didn't show it.

Safety boat on hand.

John Legg above as we head off towards Deganwy. The rip tides and swells under the bridges made things interesting.

Deganwy more windy and wild with a fast flow of water. Bites few and only a rockling and flounder caught. Experienced Dave always looked totally comfortable in his kayak.

We had a rest at the pontoon before the arduous way back to the slipway when we had to paddle against the full force of a Conwy estuary spring tide. A riptide on the corner of a small headland really made us have to paddle hard. Note fishfinder on Terrys kayak, VHF radio in shoulder pouch and extra stability sponges on side.

Some other kayakers arrived.

John at the finish. I learned a lot by watching what he did.

 Kayak meet sponsored by www.victoriapierangling.co.uk

NWSA held a sea anglers kayak meet on 1st Jan 2006. We met at Llandudno North Shore but rough seas moved us to Conwy estuary. The event was covered by the 'Daily Post'. Click here to see the Daily Post article about the meet.
